Chilled water will be on tap for the pupils at Nillo Infants School at the start of the 2023 school year as part of a “dream list” of projects coming to fruition before the end of term.

The school’s P&C fundraising efforts returned with gusto in 2022 after a Covid-induced hiatus, with their Spring Fair alone raising a massive $7,000.

The P&C’s contributions meant the Lorn school, which caters for Kinder through to Year 2, could replace the previous dark and gloomy playground hand washing station. In its place is a bright new area with new sinks and splashbacks and easy-to-use taps for little fingers.

Topping off the new area is a chilled, automatic water dispenser which is thanks to a donation from The Mutual Bank.

School Principal Vicki Sellens said she was thrilled with the school’s improvements thanks to the wider community’s generosity.

“This year has seen so many projects come to fruition – we have a cover for our outdoor learning area with new concrete and synthetic turf,” she said.

“We had some dream projects such as the new wash shed and the P&C have funded them. The chilled water fountain is just fantastic.”

The school, which has been operating since 1920, will welcome 19 kindergarten pupils in 2023 bringing the school’s total enrolment to 59.

The Mutual Bank’s CEO Geoff Seccombe visited the school before the end of term to see the water fountain in action.

“It’s great to see the P&C so active in fundraising, improving the amenities at this wonderful school and The Mutual Bank could not be more pleased to donate the water fountain,” said Geoff.

“I’m sure it will see plenty of use, especially during our long hot summers.”

Mrs Sellens said she happily expected the school’s water consumption to increase next year as the children filled their own drink bottles at the water fountain which included a tally on it showing how many plastic water bottles had been saved.

“We thank The Mutual Bank and the P&C for their contributions,” she said.

“The P&C are such a strong band of workers who can ask for help from the wider community and receive it. We have such a beautiful community and are very grateful.”
