The Mutual Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Kane Jones as its new Chief Risk Officer (CRO).

Kane is a senior risk and compliance professional with more than 20 years of experience in financial services across Australia and Asia. He specialises in enterprise and operational risk, business resilience, risk transformation and organisational change with a strong background in regulatory change and compliance.

With a career predominantly in financial services spanning more than 20 years in Australia and Asia, Kane has a strong record in the design and implementation of organisational change initiatives and risk frameworks, incident and crisis management and corporate governance, as well as proven people leadership of large teams.

In his most recent role as Head of Risk and Compliance for a boutique Australian investment group, Kane developed an enterprise risk and compliance framework to support the existing business and transformed the regulatory and compliance obligations framework.

Previously, Kane worked in the customer-owned banking sector as Head of Risk at Bank First and Operational Risk Partnering Manager at Great Southern Bank. He also spent approximately 15 years with National Australia Bank, including four years as Head of Risk and Compliance for the Singapore operation.

Kane said he was particularly pleased to be working in the customer-owned banking sector again.

“The Mutual Bank’s values align strongly with my own and I am excited to be a part of an organisation where every member of the team, from the frontline staff to the executives, truly puts our Members first,” he said.

Mark Williams, CEO of The Mutual Bank, emphasised the significance of the CRO role for the Hunter-based organisation.

“Our recruitment process was comprehensive for such a pivotal role in our organisation, with more than 70 applicants,” Mr Williams said.

“We are particularly pleased to have attracted such high-quality candidates and are delighted to welcome Kane to lead our Risk and Compliance function through its next phase of evolution.”

Mr Jones has relocated to the Hunter from the Gold Coast and has family connections in the region.
